Week 8: Getting Serious With Substack

Launching three publications from scratch on three unfamiliar platforms was always going to be a challenge, especially doing them all in one go. But I did it.
I spent the first week of January setting up the basics and sending the first emails. Now I’m in the process of building and improving the publications and understanding the full potential of the platforms.
I mentioned in a recent update that I thought I might move my New Brew Thursday (NBT) website completely onto Substack at some point but it wasn’t a priority.
Well, it’s now been bumped up my list and I spent yesterday copying all my existing blog content across and adding redirects. Although it wasn’t a a priority, I knew the longer I left it, the more work would be involved so I decided to just get it done.
And, yes, I could have probably just moved the domain, done one big redirect, or done some other fancy techy stuff to make the process quicker, but I ended up doing it all manually because…well..I just did. So now if you search any of the newbrewthursday.uk pages, they (should) redirect to the Substack.
It means NBT should now be easier to manage as it’s all in one place - I’ve even set up sections to make it easier for my subscribers to find content.
But there’s also another reason I’ve been playing around with my Substack publication so much.
I’m launching a new publication - Write With Lisa.
And I’ve recorded the entire set-up to provide you with a step-by-step set-up guide.
Weekly Progress Report
I’d love to have exciting updates for you, but it’s been another uneventful week I’m afraid. I’ve mainly been writing content and making headers on Canva so I haven’t done a lot in the way of promoting my newsletters.
While the six-figure gurus might make running a paid email newsletter sound like a walk in the park, there’s actually a lot of work that needs to go on in the background. Content doesn’t write itself unless you trust AI to do it (which I don’t).
So this month has been very much focused on improving the publications, but I’m expecting to have more exciting updates for you throughout March.
As well as launching my new publication, I will also be upgrading to the paid version of Beehiiv so I’ll be testing out some of the features I haven’t had access to so far such as making money through ads or boosts.
Speaking of making money…
