Builder v2 available

When I went to update something on my site last week, I noticed a new website builder was showing. Beehiiv had said they were rolling it out on the scale plan eventually, and it looks like it’s now available (although it is still in beta).

As it is only a beta version, the builder is still very glitchy, and I’ll admit I almost threw my laptop out the window several times. But I persevered with it and eventually figured out how to make it do what I wanted it to do.

Although it is quite limited, it does give you way more design flexibility than v1 (which was super limited). You now have a choice of nine website themes, which can be customised with your choice of colours and fonts.

The themes aren’t as varied in layout as they are with Ghost, but at least you now have options.

I stayed with a layout similar to what I already had, as I didn’t want to change it too drastically, but I did add a background colour to make it more in line with my main website.

I also updated the ‘Get Copy Confident’, ‘About’ and ‘Upgrade’ pages and added an ‘Event’ page (which links to the event page on my main site). There’s still some work to do - for example, I need to add a few images to make it look less drab - but it’s definitely an improvement.

Content refresh and new look emails

While I was updating the site, I decided to refresh the content. When I started the experiment, I was naming all my posts “Week X: Subject”, but I decided a while ago that this didn’t translate well when I was sharing them on socials.

So, I went back through all the posts and changed the titles. While I was doing that, I also updated some of the content (removing links to past events and archiving posts that are no longer relevant).

I also changed the headers. Previously, I was using the same “weekly update” header on all of them:

I’ve now tweaked this for each post so they are all slightly different. They have some info about the subject of the post, and I’m adding different icons that loosely relate to the theme:

I’ve also been playing around with the design settings within the emails/posts and have figured out how to add borders to make the different sections clearer.

Plus, I realised there’s an option to make individual sections visible only in email or only on the web version. I don’t think this is a new feature - I just didn’t notice it before.

Going forward, I’m going to exclude the intro and the weekly progress reports from the web version of my updates to make them more like blog posts. It means subscribers get something a little extra compared to general website visitors.
